Transaction Declined Messages

Below is a list of common transaction decline codes, their error messages, and recommended actions:

54Expired card (54)Check the expiry date on the card:
- If the date is in the future, retry the transaction.
- If the date is in the past, return the card to the cardholder and advise them to contact their card issuer for renewal.
55Incorrect PIN (55)The entered PIN is incorrect.
57Transaction not permitted by Issuer (57)The client must contact their bank.
58Transaction not permitted on terminal (58)Check terminal settings or contact customer support.
61Exceeds withdrawal limit (61)The client must contact their bank.
62Restricted card (62)The client must contact their bank.
63Security violation (63)Security violation detected.
65Exceeds withdrawal frequency (65)The client must contact their bank.
75PIN tries exceeded (75)Too many incorrect PIN attempts. Advise the cardholder to contact their bank and use another payment method.
AFTransaction is declined (AF)Transaction declined / authentication error.
TRTransaction is declined (TR)Transaction declined / approved by Issuer, but terminal denied the transaction.
TRTransaction is declined (TR-02)Transaction declined / error during EMV command (card may have been removed).
TRTransaction is declined (TR-11)Transaction declined / approved by Issuer, but card denied the transaction.
